The most popular Lenten devotion is the Stations of the Cross, to which the Church has attached a plenary indulgence.
Normally, these prayers must be said in a church building, but those legitimately impeded from doing so may also gain the indulgence by holding a specially blessed crucifix and piously meditating on the Passion of Our Lord whilereciting:
- One Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for each Station
- Five Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glory Bes in memory of the Holy Wounds of Our Lord
- One Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be “for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff” (=”the exaltation of Mother Church, the propagation of the Faith, the uprooting of heresy, the conversion of sinners, peace and concord among Christian nations, and the other needs of the Church.”)
If the prayers are said in common (as in a family) it is sufficient that only one person hold the crucifix.
Since there are very few churches where faithful Catholics can make the Stations these days, and since even these places are often difficult to get to, we are making a Stations Crucifix available for this purpose. It is ideal for families, shut-ins, travelers, and those who might otherwise be prevented from making the Way of the Cross in church.
We can send you one of these crucifixes for a suggested donation of $20. This will cover the cost of the cross (it is made from olive wood), domestic U.S. postage and a little extra that will help us carry out our many apostolic activities. We will also include a book with St. Alphonsus’ station prayers, in case you would like to recite the longer version.
